Mariners relievers Austin Adams, Dan Altavilla placed on 10-day injured list

Austin Adams has been one of the few bright spots for the shaky Seattle Mariners bullpen, while Dan Altavilla looked to have finally been on the right track in the last week.
Now, both are out of action.

The Mariners placed the 28-year-old Adams and 26-year-old Altavilla on the 10-day injured list Saturday. Fellow right-handed relievers Parker Markel and David McKay have been recalled from Triple-A Tacoma to replace them on Seattle’s active roster.
Adams has a right shoulder strain, and his IL placement is rectroactive to Thursday. Altavilla’s injury is a right forearm strain.
In 19 appearances for the Mariners since being acquired from the Washington Nationals on May 4, Adams has a 2.49 ERA with an impressive 39 strikeouts to nine walks over 21 2/3 innings. He made 11 straight scoreless appearances from June 7 through July 2, but he gave up three runs on two hits and a walk while registering only two outs to blow a save opportunity Wednesday against St. Louis.
Altavilla has a 9.53 ERA over three stints with the Mariners this season. He has pitched in seven games for Seattle, and he allowed just one hit and no walks while striking out four in three straight scoreless outings of one inning apiece from June 27 through July 4. That streak ended Friday as he gave up two runs on one hit and two walks in an inning of work against the A’s.
Markel, 28, returns for his second stint with the M’s this year. He pitched in four games from May 12-20 for Seattle, giving up six earned runs over 3 2/3 innings. With Triple-A Tacoma, he has a 2.81 ERA with seven saves in 20 games.
McKay, 24, is back with the Mariners for the third time in 2019. He has allowed just one run over five innings in five games with Seattle. For the Rainiers, he has a 3.76 ERA in 24 relief appearances.
