An eight-year tenure in a Seattle uniform gave Alvin Davis a nickname for life: “Mr. Mariner.” But something goes back even further for the American League’s 1984 Rookie of the Year.
From Day 1, faith has been present in the life of Davis. On the latest episode of Above & Beyond, Davis joins Brock Huard to discuss growing up with a deep faith and sports heritage, and how that helped him with the losses of his brother and father at an early age.
It was the first time Huard and Davis had ever had a conversation, but you’d never know listening to the podcast.
“I knew of the man he was, but I had never met him before we sat down and had one another in tears,” Huard said. “We found a connection here that was so incredibly unique. It’s the connection that comes with faith and sports.”
