Russell Wilson is in the midst of the hottest stretch of a four-year career that already consists of two Super Bowl appearances. Thus the question posed on “Bob, Groz and Tom”: Even with a limited body of work, is Wilson the best QB in Seahawks franchise history?

“What you’re saying is if he doesn’t play another game, he’s the greatest quarterback in Seahawks history,” said Dave Grosby. “He’s not, he hasn’t played enough games. It’s (Matt) Hasselbeck or (Dave) Krieg.”

The 710 ESPN Seattle listeners disagreed with Groz, with 89 percent of the more than 280 voters believing he is tops in Seahawks history.

Krieg started 131 games over 12 years with the Seahawks, passing for 26,132 yards and 195 touchdowns, and Hasselbeck played in 131 games over 10 years, throwing for 29,434 yards and 174 touchdowns.

Wilson has never missed a start in 60 career games, compiling 12,947 passing yards and 93 touchdowns, plus another 2,327 rushing yards and 12 TDs on the ground. Oh, and there was that Super Bowl win.

“Dave Krieg gets the longevity,” Groz said. “If you want to do it by stats, he’s thrown more completions, more attempts, more yards, more touchdowns… Russell will be the greatest quarterback in Seahawks history.”

Bob Stelton noted that longevity isn’t everything, as Dodgers pitcher Sandy Koufax and Bears running back Gale Sayers had short careers but are always mentioned among the greatest ever at their positions.

“Longevity, I understand it, but it’s not always mandatory when rating somebody’s greatness within that environment,” Stelton said. “We’re talking about the Seahawks.”

“I think in this case you’ve got guys who had some success who played a long time, were very successful,” Groz responded. “It’s not like you’re comparing him against nothing.”

Tom Wassell, who believes Wilson is already No. 1 in franchise history thanks to his rare postseason success, asked Groz whether Krieg or Hasselbeck could succeed in the Seahawks offense than Wilson right now.

“No, not this offense,” Groz responded. “It’s perfect for Russell Wilson.”

What about Wilson right now over Hasselbeck in his prime? No again.

“That pretty much answers your question right there,” Wassell responded.

Stelton added that Wilson has accomplished more in his short amount of time than in the others’ longer careers.

“Did he have more pass attempts? No. Did he have more touchdowns? No. But did he accomplish more, did he achieve the ultimate goal as a quarterback as opposed to those guys? Yes.”

But Groz didn’t back down, noting that Wilson’s team success should not count against the other Seahawks greats and that his recent other-worldly play is skewing people’s perspectives.

“If his career ended today, no he wouldn’t be the greatest quarterback in Seahawks history,” Groz said. “He just has to play more games, that’s all. He doesn’t even have to get any better.”
