Kyle Seager is out of the Mariners starting lineup once again with a sore hip for Wednesday’s 4:10 contest in Detroit on 710 ESPN Seattle.
Mariners manager Scott Servais is continuing to be cautious with Seager’s recovery, noting in his daily meeting with the press that Seattle can’t afford to lose its one-time All-Star third baseman, especially after outfielder Mitch Haniger and pitcher Felix Hernandez hit the disabled list earlier in the day. Seager last appeared in a game Saturday as a pinch hitter and hasn’t started since last Friday.
In the Mariners’ lineup, the recently promoted Ben Gamel will be in right field and hit seventh in place of Haniger, while Taylor Motter will be at third base and hitting fifth for the second day in a row.
James Paxton will pitch for Seattle against Detroit’s Daniel Norris in a battle of left-handed starters.
Coverage begins on 710 ESPN Seattle with the pregame show at 3.
