Seahawks backup defensive end Damontre Moore was arrested Saturday on suspicion of driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license, according to multiple reports.
Moore, 24, was booked into King County Jail in Seattle at 6:56 p.m. and released on $1,500 bail less than nine hours later. According to The Seattle Times, the Seahawks released the following statement: “We are aware of the situation and are still gathering information and will defer to his representation’’ for further comment.
As 710 ESPN Seattle’s Brady Henderson wrote, Moore had become a nice part of Seattle’s defensive-line rotation since he was signed last month, but missed the last two games with a foot injury. The former third-round pick has 10 career sacks, including a half sack with Seattle. Among the reasons the Giants released Moore in December of 2015 was because he repeatedly violated team rules, according to ESPN.
Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll has praised Moore’s play, especially after his first appearance with the team against the Bills, where he recorded three tackles, including two for loss in the fourth quarter to help Seattle’s defense keep Buffallo off the scoreboard on their final two possessions.
“I can’t wait to see the film,” Carroll said after the game. “We were really excited about Damontre in practice this week. I don’t know how he was sitting out there, but I thought he looked pretty active and looked pretty good. That’s just a stupendous job by (general manager John Schneider) to figure that out and find that guy for us, because he helped us tonight.”
Moore said that before he signed with the Seahawks, he was home in Dallas to be with his family after his mother had surgery to remove her gallbladder.
“I haven’t been home in God knows how long, whatever the case may be, but it was like, how can I take advantage of my time?” he said on Nov. 9. “And I know that’s one thing that’s a big thing for me is being family-oriented, so I was like, it ain’t no point in me being by myself. Let me go down here, help my family, just be around them, especially through this time.”
