Sounders notebook: Andy Craven waived, Victor Mansaray in Norway

The Sounders’ roster had a pair of subtractions this week.
The team announced on Thursday that forward Andy Craven, who spent most of this season with Seattle Sounders 2, was being waived by the club. Craven joined S2 last season after being drafted third by the Sounders in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft and was moved to the senior squad after a great run of form for the USL club early in the season. He only made three appearances for the first team before suffering a knee injury that ended his season, and in 2016 has just three goals for S2.

The club also confirmed on Wednesday a report from a Norwegian newspaper that forward Victor Mansaray was on trial with second-tier Norwegian club Åsane and would possibly have another with top-tier club SK Brann. As of now, the Sounders’ Homegrown Player is set to return to training with Sounders 2 in mid-August.
Speaking of Mansaray, he was recently voted the best player under 20 in USL by all the coaches in the league. He’s not the only S2 player to make the 20 Under 20 list, either: midfielder Mark O’Ojong, who recently made the move from the academy to S2, is 12th on the list.
In other Sounders news:
• Sounders midfielder Cristian Roldan confirmed on Thursday that he’s been in contact with the Guatemala national team, and that coach Walter Claveri was trying to get him onto the squad for an upcoming friendly against Panama. Roldan is eligible to play for Guatemala, El Salvador, and the United States – the first two from his parents’ heritage, and the latter because he was born in the US and has lived here his entire life. Even though the player is flattered by the contact, he maintained the stance he gave earlier this year that he’d like to cement his place with the Sounders, with the insinuation that he would wait for a call-up to the United States squad.
• Even though he won’t be featuring against Orlando City, Sounders center back Roman Torres is finally back in full training with the squad after nearly 10 months on the sideline. His ACL tear required serious surgery, and the club has maintained that Torres wouldn’t play until he was fully healthy and ready to go. He didn’t travel to Orlando, but he could be ready for the match against Real Salt Lake on August 14.
• The Sounders U-16 squad recently won the Youdan Trophy, an international youth tournament held in Sheffield, England. Seattle’s team defeated some huge names in world soccer on the way to the trophy: Newcastle United (England), Charlton Athletic (England), and FC Basel (Switzerland). Not only did the U-16s win the whole thing, they had the leading scorer, Azriel Gonzalez, and the player of the tournament, Daniel Robles.
