Mariners recall Shawn O’Malley, option Luis Sardinas to minors

The Mariners made a pair of roster moves prior to Sunday’s game against the Angels, recalling utility player Shawn O’Malley from AAA Tacoma, and making room for him by optioning infielder Luis Sardiñas to the Rainiers.
O’Malley is in the starting lineup and playing center field against Los Angeles.
O’Malley, 28, was batting .317 with 15 runs, five doubles, one triple, one home run, 13 RBI and five stolen bases in 25 games with AAA Tacoma. In 24 games with Seattle in 2015, O’Malley batted .262 with one home run and three stolen bases. A native of Richland, Wash., O’Malley is one of 35 players born or raised in the state of Washington to appear with the Mariners.
Sardiñas, 22, hit .154 in 12 games with the Mariners after making the Opening Day roster.
