LISTEN: Pete Carroll on Russell Wilson's injuries, previews game vs Saints

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll tells KIRO Radio 97.3 FM that quarterback Russell Wilson will play Sunday against New Orleans despite a pectoral injury but that strong safety Kam Chancellor will likely miss his third straight game.

Wilson was limited in practice Wednesday and Thursday, listed as such due to his previously sprained left MCL and the pectoral injury he sustained Sunday night against Arizona. He said Thursday he’s not overly concerned about the pectoral injury – which is on the side of his throwing arm – but acknowledged that it’s affecting him. His limited participation in practice this week indicates as much, especially considering that never before in his career had he been listed as anything other than a full participant, even earlier this season as he was hobbled by his sprained knee from Week 3 and his sprained right ankle from the opener.

Asked during his weekly appearance on KIRO Radio 97.3 FM about Wilson’s status for Sunday’s game, Carroll told host Dori Monson: “He’s going to be fine. If all the other stuff hasn’t held him back, this isn’t going to hold him back.”

Chancellor has missed the last two games and didn’t practice Wednesday or Thursday this week due to what Carroll has called a pulled groin. Carroll indicated that the Seahawks won’t officially rule him out, as was the case last week, but that it’s unlikely he’ll play.

“Kam’s going to go all the way to game-time, but it’s going to be hard for him to make it,” Carroll said. “He was not able to work during the week. He’s just too tender to take a chance at setting back with going too hard too soon, so we might have to wait him out.”

As he did Wednesday, Carroll left open the possibility of left tackle Bradley Sowell playing Sunday. He also revealed the severity of the MCL injury that knocked Sowell out of Sunday night’s game, calling it a second-degree sprain. Carroll indicated that Sowell will get some work in on Friday, which will help determine his status for Sunday’s game. All indications have been that undrafted rookie George Fant will start at left tackle if Sowell can’t.

“He had a second-degree sprain of his knee and he came right back on Wednesday and said, ‘I think I can play this week.’ That’s a four-to-six-week deal,” Carroll said of Sowell. “With him, we’ll see at the end of the week how it works out.”

The full interview with Carroll will air Friday afternoon at 12:30 and again at 2:15 on “The Dori Monson Show” on KIRO Radio 97.3 FM. Carroll is scheduled to speak with the media at-large at 2.
