The Seahawks on Tuesday placed rookie defensive tackle Quinton Jefferson on Injured Reserve and replaced him on their 53-man roster with defensive end Malliciah Goodman, a fourth-year player who was previously with Atlanta.
Jefferson, a fifth-round pick, seemed likely to be placed on IR when coach Pete Carroll said earlier this week that he needed knee surgery. Jefferson was on track to return after missing a game following thumb surgery but he hurt his knee in practice last week.
NFL teams can only recall one player from IR each season, and the Seahawks have indicated they plan to do so with linebacker Mike Morgan. That means Jefferson’s rookie season is almost certainly over. He made one tackle in three games.
Goodman has played in 34 career games with 11 stars, all coming with Atlanta, which drafted him in the fourth round out of Clemson in 2013. He’s 26 years old and listed at 6 feet 4 and 276 pounds.
The Seahawks also released rookie running back Zac Brooks from their practice. Brooks was a seventh-round pick by Seattle.
