With the potential loss of linebacker Bruce Irvin in free agency, the Seahawks could be in the market for another pass rusher.

There may be no more skilled defensive lineman on the market than mercurial defensive end Greg Hardy, but Brock Huard does not expect to see the former Pro Bowler suiting up in Seattle.

“He just can’t possibly be on the Seahawks radar,” Huard said on the Blue 42 segment of “Brock and Salk” Wednesday.

The 27-year-old is one of the most physically gifted defensive linemen in the league –
watch last season’s interception against Seattle as a reminder of his athleticism – but also one of the most volatile.

Hardy compiled 26 sacks during the 2012 and 2013 seasons for Carolina, but he was suspended 10 games by the NFL for a high-profile domestic violence incident in 2014. The suspension was ultimately reduced to four games, but he missed a total of 19 games as a result of his legal issues.

In 2015 with Dallas, Hardy had six sacks and 32 QB pressures, and he was paid roughly $8.8 million. But Hardy has also been prone to distracting off-field issues that included reports of him being late to practice and fracturing the locker room, plus controversy surrounding his responses to the domestic violence allegations.

“Brock and Salk” noted that when the Seahawks reportedly kicked Hardy’s tires last offseason, their show received impassioned calls and texts for an hour.

“There was immediately that line just drawn that you don’t even dance with that guy,” Huard said. “He’s just off his rocker. You saw that last year with Dallas.”

With that said, Huard said Seattle has its own secret weapon locker-room personality that could handle, and maybe get the best out of, someone like Hardy.

“Part of me also says if there’s one kind of defensive lineman human being that might like to entertain him and deal with him, it might be Michael Bennett,” he said. “It might be Michael Bennett that says right just to his face, like, ‘You’re nuts, man, you’re crazy, but you also can really play. You play inside and outside and you do some damage on the field.'”

Then again, Bennett has already weighed in on the possibility of Hardy as a teammate, telling NFL Network’s GameDay Morning last November that, “I’m a father of three daughters so any man that beats a woman, I think that’s hard for me to swallow, but the Cowboys did make their choice. (The Cowboys) have had a bunch of players before that had a couple things. As a teammate, I’m not sure I would want him in the locker room, especially as a distraction when you’re already losing. It’s one of those things that would have to be up to the organization.”

Even if Bennett were fully on board, Huard doesn’t see it as a fit.

“I don’t see them making that dance,” he said.
“Not in March, not in April, not in May. I don’t see that as a possibility.”
