The Mariners have announced the signing of All-Star second baseman Robinson Cano, who reportedly agreed to a 10-year, $240 million deal at the end of last week.

The Mariners will introduce Cano on Thursday during a 3 p.m. press conference, which you can hear on 710 ESPN Seattle.

“We have made a major commitment to a player who is one of the most dynamic in Major League Baseball. And Robinson has made a commitment to the Seattle Mariners organization and to the City of Seattle,” general manager Jack Zduriencik said in a press release.

“We have stayed true to our plan of building our organization from the ground up through the amateur draft and player development, and now have had the opportunity to add an All-Star player through free agency.”

Cano’s agreement with the Mariners was pending a physical, which explains why the deal wasn’t announced until Thursday.

“I am really happy to be here in Seattle and look forward to helping the Mariners organization win a championship and bring a World Series trophy to the Pacific Northwest,” Cano said in the release.

The Mariners’ bio on Cano indicates he will wear No. 22 with Seattle. His old number, 24, was worn by Mariners Hall of Fame member Ken Griffey Jr.

Programming note: Cano will join 710 ESPN Seattle’s “Bob and Groz” Thursday at 1 p.m.
