Groz: The potential Marshawn Lynch return is best news for Seahawks

The Seahawks’ 27-13 loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday was crushing, and that’s almost putting it mildly.

Not only did the loss take Seattle out of the NFC’s top seed and make it hard for them to secure a first-round bye in the playoffs, but the Seahawks’ injury concerns graduated from alarming to critical.
Star offensive lineman Duane Brown was the first big blow, sitting out Sunday’s game as it was later revealed he needs minor knee surgery. And if that wasn’t enough of a hit for a run-first team, Seattle lost its top two running backs to injury – Chris Carson with a hip fracture and C.J. Prosise to a broken arm. Add that to the fact that the Seahawks were already without Rashaad Penny, who recently went on injured reserve with a knee injury, and just like that they were down to their No. 4 running back, 2019 sixth-round pick Travis Homer.

That’s right. The Seahawks are meeting with Marshawn Lynch, perhaps the best running back in franchise history (I said perhaps to free you of the burden of having to blast me in the comments for not mentioning Shaun Alexander), and a return from retirement seems entirely possible ahead of a crucial Week 17 matchup with the San Francisco 49ers that will decide the NFC West championship.
