The Seahawks are perhaps most thin at safety and tight end due to injury, but that could start to change Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Seahawks’ Carroll wants to put Arians’ CenturyLink success ‘to rest’

On Friday’s edition of The Pete Carroll Show on KIRO Radio 97.3 FM, the Seahawks head coach had positive news when it came to Bradley McDougald, their longest-tenured player at the safety position.

“Bradley made it back and he’ll be ready to play a full game for us,” Carroll said.

McDougald missed last week’s game in Atlanta with a back injury, the first game he’s missed all season. He has been a full participant in practice each day this week.

As for the tight end spot, Ed Dickson was designated for return from the injured reserve earlier this week, and the Seahawks are hopeful he can make his return to play from August knee surgery against the Buccaneers.

“Ed practiced all week and we’ll take a look at gametime if we can get him up or not,” said Carroll, whose team lost No. 1 tight end Will Dissly to an Achilles injury earlier this month. “He made a really good comeback after a long time off and he’s close. He made it through the week and did well so we’ll see what happens here (at) gametime and into next week.”

While the development of McDougald is positive, it’s not all good news at safety. Lano Hill and Quandre Diggs, who were both inactive in Atlanta, are in line to miss Sunday’s game as well.

Hill, who has an elbow injury, did return to practice this week, but Carroll said it will be “another week or so” before he plays in a game.

The Seahawks debut of Diggs, who Seattle acquired in a trade with the Detroit Lions last week, will have to wait another game due to a hamstring injury he suffered while still with Detroit.

“He had a hamstring that just wasn’t right so we just have to wait it out to get him,” Carroll said of Diggs. “Next week will be a really important week for him to come back and so we’ll see how he can fit in.”

Seattle placed another safety, Tedric Thompson, on injured reserve Wednesday, ending his season due to a shoulder injury that needed surgery.

Rookie Marquise Blair is expected to start a third straight game, with McDougald being the other starter Sunday at safety.

Carroll had one more injury update to share on defensive tackle Quinton Jefferson, who is dealing with an oblique strain and did not practice on Wednesday and Thursday.

“Quinton Jefferson is still a guy that we’re trying to get back. He had a pretty good oblique strain, and when you’re a defensive lineman that’s a big factor when you’re trying to torque guys and use your upper body power and strength. So that’s factored into his play right now.”

Hill, Diggs and Jefferson were all listed as doubtful for the game on Seattle’s injury report Friday afternoon.
