The Seahawks will have their top special teams player back for 2019. The team confirmed Saturday it has re-signed cornerback Neiko Thorpe, shortly after Thorpe shared that he was at team headquarters to sign a new deal in a story on his Instagram account.

Thorpe had reportedly visited with the Buffalo Bills earlier in the week.

A six-year NFL veteran, the 29-year-old Thorpe has been a standout on punt and kick return coverage in his three seasons with the Seahawks. In 2018, he served as co-captain for Seattle’s special teams along with kicker Sebastian Janikowski.

Thorpe appeared in 12 games last season for the Seahawks, limited at one point due to an ankle injury. He made seven combined tackles (five solo, two assisted). He had 12 combined tackles and two passes defensed in 14 games in 2017 and 19 combined tackles in 2016.

Thorpe debuted in the NFL in 2012 as an undrafted rookie with Kansas City. He played nine games the Chiefs, then spent the next two seasons with the Oakland Raiders before coming to the Seahawks in 2016.
