Dee Gordon’s not a home run hitter, they say. No chance he’s going to hit a game-winning homer, they say.
James Paxton to miss at least 1 start, but it could have been much worse
Well, then how do ‘they’ explain what happened in the 12th inning in Oakland on Wednesday?
Your eyes do not deceive you. That is indeed a video of the Mariners’ 170-pound speedster getting into a Yusmeiro Petit pitch in the 12th inning on Wednesday afternoon, providing Seattle with the only runs scored in a 2-0 win over the Oakland A’s (full story here).
The Mariners certainly needed that win. They had lost the two previous games in the series, and falling victim to a division rival you’re chasing in the wild card standings is never a great way to go into a day off, which the Mariners have on Thursday.
As for Gordon, that was just his second homer of the season and only the 13th of his major league career. Gordon did flash a little bit of power earlier this year, though – in spring training he actually had a two-homer game. At the time, he said that was the first time at any level of play that he hit two homers in the same contest.
