Mariners fans sent Jean Segura to the All-Star Game in Washington, D.C.

Then he sent teammate Nelson Cruz into hysterics during the game.

Jean Segura crushed a three-run homer in the eighth inning off of Milwaukee left-hander Josh Hader in his first plate appearance of the Midsummer Classic, giving the American League a 5-2 lead over the National League.

Fellow Mariner Nelson Cruz, one of four Seattle players on the AL team, captured the moment on his phone. Well, not just the moment, but his priceless reaction watching his teammate take the lead in the All-Star Game MVP competition with one swing.

Segura seemed like a lock to become the second straight Mariners player to win the All-Star Game MVP – Robinson Canó won it in 2017 after hitting a tie-breaking homer of his own – until another Mariner, closer Edwin Díaz, gave up a two-run shot to Cincinnati’s Scooter Gennett to tie the game in the ninth. After the AL re-took the lead in the 10th on back-to-back homers by Houston’s Alex Bregman and George Springer, Segura added a single and a run scored to his case.

Bregman took the award. He went 1 for 3.

The AL won the game 8-6 in 10 innings.
