The Mariners claimed right-handed reliever Jeff Gray off waivers from the White Sox, the team announced Friday.

A corresponding roster move will be made when Gray reports to the team Saturday in Cleveland, where the Mariners begin a three-game series Friday against the Indians.

The 29-year-old Gray is 0-0 with a 2.70 ERA in six games this season. He did not pitch in last weekend’s series against the Mariners at Safeco Field. He’s also pitched for the A’s and Cubs in parts of four major league seasons.

The White Sox designated Gray for assignment Wednesday to make room for former Cy Young Award winner Jake Peavy, who was activated off the disabled list.
