The Mariners will have to go ahead with Dee Gordon for at least a 10-day period as he landed on the disabled list Tuesday with a fractured toe.

While some players might be able to press on through a similar injury, it’s obviously much tougher for a player whose game is so much about speed like Gordon, the current American League leader in stolen bases.
“This is a guy who his entire game is based on speed, so I think he’s somebody you’re going to need to get to 100 percent,” Mariners insider Shannon Drayer told 710 ESPN Seattle’s Bob, Groz and Tom. “I don’t think it’s an instance like where Nelson Cruz can deal with a variety of different leg injuries and dings and dents and go out there and swing a bat. Dee’s gotta be able to run.”
Gordon has dealt with a sore toe for several weeks now, and he appeared to re-aggravate the injury while diving for a ball in shallow right field running out from his second base position late in Sunday’s 3-2 win over Detroit. While Gordon stayed in the game, delivering a hit, stealing second and scoring the winning run on Jean Segura’s walk-off single, he was noticeably affected by the toe in the final inning.
“I think you remember seeing him come around home really slow at the end of the game,” Drayer said.
