Did James Paxton and Jim Moore predict the Big Maple’s no-hitter?

May 9, 2018, 1:34 PM

Jim Moore is no Nostradamus. A look at his record predicting football games will bear that out. But similar to a broken clock being right twice a day, the co-host of 710 ESPN Seattle’s Danny, Dave and Moore ran into an eerie coincidence last Friday during an interview with Mariners pitcher James Paxton.

Relive Paxton’s memorable no-hitter with Rick Rizzs’ radio call

“Do you think about throwing a no-hitter?” Moore asked the Big Maple.

You know what happened just four days later. Paxton threw his first-career no-hitter, doing so in his home country of Canada to become to the first Canadian pitcher to throw one on his native soil.

Paxton’s answer to Moore’s question was pretty interesting, by the way. He spoke about how he had been told a no-hitter involves a lot of luck and usually is a team effort that includes some great defensive plays. Sound familiar?

There have been signs that Paxton had no-hit potential throughout his career. In fact, his 16-strikeout effort last week was a pretty good indication that a no-hitter was somewhere in his future. Moore and co-hosts Danny O’Neil and Dave Wyman got into that and much more in the interview with Paxton from Edgar’s Cantina inside Safeco Field (listen here), and it’s worth going back and listening to after Paxton’s incredible performance against the Blue Jays on Tuesday night.
