The price was right for the Mariners to bring back Kendrys Morales

Kendrys Morales was arguably the Mariners’ best hitter in 2013, but the veteran designated hitter didn’t return to Seattle despite having an offer tendered to him by Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik last offseason.
Morales has had an inauspicious 2014, starting the season without a team and eventually landing in Minnesota. He had a short and disappointing stint ultimately with the Twins, giving the Mariners the chance to get their man — again.
Morales was acquired by Seattle for reliever Stephen Pryor on Thursday and will rejoin the team for Friday’s game against the Orioles at Safeco Field, and the hope is that he’ll look a lot more like the player who hit .277 with 23 home runs and 80 RBIs in 2013 than the one who has just a .234 average and one homer in 39 games this season.
The trade has had it’s share of detractors, but 710 ESPN Seattle’s “Bob and Groz” are not included in that camp. As they discuss in the video above, the acquisition of Morales makes perfect sense for the Mariners and came at a very reasonable cost.
