Mariners make a pitching move plus notes

A rather newsy day for the Mariners after their return from the road. Jeremy Bonderman has been DFA’d and Lucas Luetge called up to take his place, at least temporarily. A starter will be needed for the game against the Red Sox on Thursday and you can rule out Blake Beavan as Eric Wedge said that the pitcher would be coming from Triple-A.

Bonderman has been inconsistent but with Joe Saunders and Aaron Harang picking it up lately, some thought the No. 5 starter could have been afforded a bit more time. Not with youth apparently ready in Tacoma, according to Wedge.

“It’s really more about who’s coming versus that,” Wedge answered. “I think when you talk about Bondo I think you really have to appreciate his effort and what he has done to get back to where he is. We still feel like there is more work to be done but again, it is more about who we are bringing up.”

No, it most likely won’t be a surprise callup of Taijuan Walker, who got the start yesterday for the Rainiers. I can’t see them starting him short one day’s rest. It most likely will be Erasmo Ramirez, although that timing is interesting seeing that he gave up six walks in his last start. If it is indeed Ramierz, he will be coming up with one extra day of rest as he last pitched on Friday.

News on the health front as well. Michael Morse put on quite a show in batting practice today, parking baseball after baseball in the upper deck in left field. He along with Franklin Gutierrez is scheduled to run the bases in the sim game Wednesday that is being put together for Stpehen Pryor.

Last note for you is the answer to the question I threw out there on the blog yesterday: who is the only Mariner position player with more than 10 games played to have a winning record this season? The answer? Endy Chavez. In his starts the team is 25-24.
