The Mariners recalled Casey Lawrence and optioned Andrew Moore to Triple-A Tacoma in a right-handed pitcher swap Friday.
Seattle also called up right-hander Cody Martin. Infielder Tyler Smith was designated for assignment to make room on the roster in a corresponding move.
Lawrence, 29, posted a 5.71 ERA with 16 strikeouts and three walks in six appearances for the Mariners this season. He’ll have another shot at the rotation in replacement of the 23-year-old Moore, who is 2-4 with a 5.65 ERA, 16 strikeouts and four walks in six starts this season. The rookie struggled in his most recent start, surrendering two homers and four runs in Seattle’s 4-0 loss to the Red Sox Wednesday.
Martin, 27, has spent the season with Triple-A Tacoma, where he has posted a 3.81 ERA with 37 strikeouts and 8 walks in 12 appearances.
Both Lawrence and Martin will be available for Friday night’s game against the Mets at 7:10 on 710 ESPN Seattle. Here is the Mariners’ lineup:
