Mora is Out: Pete Carroll In?

Jan 8, 2010, 8:33 PM | Updated: Apr 4, 2011, 7:55 pm

The news broke this morning that the Seahawks fired head coach, Jim Mora, and it sent shock waves through the city. Naturally, we reached out to some heavy hitters in the NFL world, for reaction.

Dave Wyman joined me today, and we had the chance to catch up with TJ Houshmandzadeh, Seahawks WR, to see how he felt about the news.

“I was very shocked. I could have done more – I knowmora 2 myself and I know my competitiveness and I know that I could have done more. I think that’s what irks me more than anything else.”

So what was the players’ impression of the coaching staff when the proverbial ‘stuff’ hit the fan? I asked TJ what kind of trust the team had in their coaches.

“A lot was made of ‘did we trust this and did we trust that’ – I think when you lose, you’re going to over-analyze a lot of things. When things are great, nobody has a problem with anything. I wouldn’t say it was to the point where I thought Coach Knapp was taking us in the wrong direction. I just thought that, for whatever reason, we couldn’t get anything going offensively for the rest of the season.”

TJ had a lot of interesting insight into the situation – you can hear all of it right here.

We also had some of the best of the best on the show to talk about the Seahawks transition from Jim Mora to a potential Pete Carroll.

Trey couldn’t believe how abrupt the story came down. “The thing was that nobody saw this coming, but…they were down in LA talking to Carroll last week.”

Mark pointed out all of the issues with the team, citing injuries and inconsistency on the roster as problems Mora couldn’t control. “It’s a Carrollcruel business, it just shows the business that is professional football.”

Trey Wingo and Mark Schlereth of ESPN’s NFL Live joined Dave Wyman and myself to talk about the change in leadership.

You can hear our entire conversation right here.

So what kind of NFL Coach will Pete Carroll make? His record in the past is 33-31 ( I guess it’s a winning record, so how can I complain?) in the NFL – how will he do here?

We touched base with LA-based ESPN commentator, JA Adande who was the first to tell us that it’s not an ‘if’ but it’s a ‘when’ Pete Carroll becomes the next head football coach of the Seattle Seahawks. He breaks everything for you right here.

Also joining us this evening were Peter King and Sam Farmer, not to mention, the one and only, Professor, John Clayton, joined us for the entire 5 o’clock hour – be sure to catch that right here if you missed it.

So what does the 12th man think about Pete Carroll as the Seahawks next coach? It’s not final yet, but it’s looking promising. Is this something you’re excited about? Are you skeptical? Leave your thoughts below!
