Sounders say Jordan Morris’ injury is a hamstring strain

DALLAS – Contrary to comments from club officials during Sunday night’s match that Jordan Morris was substituted at halftime for a thigh injury, Sounders head coach Brian Schmetzer said afterward that Morris suffered a hamstring strain. Morris will be evaluated by Sounders staff immediately to determine the severity of the injury. The rookie forward had ice on his hamstring on the sidelines during the second half, as well as in the locker room following Seattle’s 2-1 loss to Dallas, which pushed the Sounders to the Western Conference Finals on aggregate.
As for how this affects Morris’ status with the United States national team (Morris was called up for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers), Schmetzer said Morris would also need to be looked at by US Soccer medical staff. The Sounders’ next match, the first leg of the conference finals, is on Tuesday, Nov. 22 at CenturyLink Field.
The other two Sounders substituted during the second half, Nelson Valdez and Erik Friberg, did have mild knocks but Schmetzer attributed them both to exhaustion. Schmetzer said that Valdez’s was a calf cramp, probably due to his not being “90-minutes fit” just yet. Both players will be checked out fully by club staff, but neither seem to be long-term issues.
