Huard’s Chalk Talk: How Russell Wilson, Seahawks thrive in ’empty’
Sep 7, 2016, 12:31 AM
Sheil Kapadia of ESPN.com recently detailed how much success quarterback Russell Wilson and the Seahawks had last season out of what are known as empty sets, formations in which the offense empties its backfield and sends five pass-catchers out into routes.
According to ESPN Stats & Information via Kapadia, Wilson led the league in passing yards per attempt from empty sets last season at 10.3 while his 74.7 percent completion rate was fourth-best.
Brock Huard explains in this season’s first “Chalk Talk” video why empty sets work so well for Wilson and the Seahawks and why that should be a big part of Seattle’s offense in 2016.
