The Mariners have added a fresh arm to their bullpen in Evan Scribner, who has yet to pitch this season due to a lat strain.
Seattle recalled the right-handed reliever from from his rehab assignment and activated him from the 60-day disabled list on Thursday. He’ll be available for Friday night’s series opener against the Angels at Safeco Field. To make room on their 40-man roster, the Mariners transferred pitcher Nathan Karns to the 60-day disabled list.
Scribner, 31, has a career ERA of 4.21 and 134 strikeouts to 27 walks over parts of five seasons with San Diego (2011) and Oakland (2012-15). He made eight rehab appearances between four of the Mariners’ minor-league affiliates this season, going 0-1 with a 6.48 ERA and 14 strikeouts to three walks.
Karns was placed on the 15-day disabled list on July 30 with a low back strain.
Additionally on Thursday, the Mariners sent minor-league relievers Jake Brentz and Pedro Vasquez to Pittsburgh to complete last month’s trade for right-handed pitcher Arquimedes Caminero.
