Mariners Breakdown: Offseason check-in — trades, what comes next

Dec 5, 2022, 4:34 PM

Things are happening as the MLB hot stove kicks into gear this week with the annual winter meetings, so it seemed like a perfect time to assess what the Mariners have done thus far and what could be on the horizon.

Kolten Wong on joining exciting Mariners: ‘I just wanted to be a part of it’

We caught up with Wyman and Bob’s Bob Stelton for a new M’s breakdown on Monday, and the Seattle Sports host has plenty to say about what president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto and general manager Justin Hollander have been up to.

What they have done, of course, is a lot of trading – and not a lot of signing. The Mariners have made deals with the Blue Jays, Diamondbacks and Brewers to acquire All-Star outfielder Teoscar Hernández, versatile catcher/outfielder Cooper Hummel, and veteran lefty-swinging second baseman Kolten Wong, respectively. To bring those players in, Seattle has shipped out reliever Erik Swanson and prospect Adam Macko (Toronto), former Rookie of the Year Kyle Lewis (Arizona), and outfielder Jesse Winker and infielder Abraham Toro (Milwaukee).

In the video, Stelton talks about where the M’s stand after those moves, the deal he wants to see next (no surprise if you’ve watched Bob’s videos before – it would be a trade for Bryan Reynolds), and how the Mariners’ offseason compares with what the defending champion Houston Astros have done. Is the gap getting closer?

Watch the video at the top of this post or on the Seattle Sports YouTube channel, and catch Wyman and Bob live from 2-7 p.m. each weekday on Seattle Sports 710 AM.
