The Seahawks didn’t find a trade partner to send defensive tackle Jarran Reed to, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, but they appear to have a familiar face in line to take his roster spot.

What are Seahawks losing by moving on from Jarran Reed?

Veteran defensive tackle Al Woods will return to Seattle, according to a tweet from his agency, SportsTrust Advisors.

The news of Woods’ return came around noon Friday, while it was reported shortly after 1 p.m. that Reed will officially be released. The Seahawks announced Reed’s official release just before 1:30 p.m.

Reed’s departure was expected as he tweeted Thursday that he would be “on to the next chapter” officially at 1 p.m. Friday. Schefter and the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport then both reported that the Seahawks hoped to trade Reed but would release him if they could not make a deal with another team.

Seattle has been busy this week when it’s come to the defensive line. They re-signed defensive end Benson Mayowa (a move that was made official Friday), added defensive end Kerry Hyder Jr. in free agency, and have reportedly parted ways with Reed and brought back Woods and defensive end Carlos Dunlap.

The 34-year-old Woods will rejoin the Seahawks on a one-year, $3 million contract that includes a $750,000 signing bonus, according to Rapoport.

Woods did not play in 2020 but was with the Seahawks in 2019, making 32 combined tackles, three tackles for loss, a sack and two fumble recoveries in 14 games (five starts). He missed the last two games of the 2019 regular season and Seattle’s two playoff games that season after being suspended for four games by the NFL for violating its policy on performance-enhancing drugs.

The 6-foot-4, 330-pound Woods previously spent 2011 with Seattle and has played for five NFL teams since debuting in the league in 2010.
