James Carpenter’s season is over now that the Seahawks have placed their starting left guard on the reserve/non-football illness.

That roster move was one of three made Tuesday by the Seahawks, who also waived veteran wide receiver Braylon Edwards and signed guard Rishaw Johnson from the practice squad.

Carpenter, Seattle’s first-round pick in 2011, started seven games at left guard this season. His rookie season also ended prematurely due to an ACL injury, which forced him to begin this season on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Carpenter suffered a concussion earlier this season and left Sunday’s game against Chicago early after experience pain in his surgically reconstructed left knee.

Edwards, 29, played sparingly for the Seahawks this season, appearing in 10 games with one start. He caught eight passes for 74 yards and one touchdown. He would have had two scores had his reception in the end zone against Chicago on Sunday not been overturned and ruled an incomplete pass.

Edwards’ career has been slowed by knee injuries. He signed a one-year deal with Seattle in July after spending last season with the 49ers and catching what was then a career-low 15 passes. He missed two consecutive games this season, the first a Week 8 loss to Detroit when he woke up with a swollen knee.

The Seahawks waived Edwards with an injury distinction, but no specific injury was cited.
