It appears the Seahawks debut of wide receiver Phillip Dorsett will have to wait at least a few more weeks.

Moore’s 10 Takeaways: Who Seahawks should get to replace Bruce Irvin

Dorsett, who has been inactive for each of the Seahawks’ first two games this season, will be placed on injured reserve in order to let him heal from a lingering foot injury, according to the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Seattle has been able to make due thus far without the speedy wideout. Quarterback Russell Wilson leads the NFL with nine touchdown passes and an 82.5 completion percentage, and he ranks fifth with 610 passing yards. DK Metcalf leads Seattle and is seventh in the league with 187 receiving yards while Tyler Lockett is 16th in the NFL with 159, and running back Chris Carson ranks in the top five in the league in TD receptions with three.

The Seahawks have also received contributions from wide receivers David Moore and Freddie Swain so far. Additionally, Josh Gordon is under contract, though he remains under indefinite suspension stemming from a failed drug test in 2019.

That’s not to say the Seahawks couldn’t make use of Dorsett, however. The 27 year old had 397 receiving yards and five touchdowns in 14 games (four starts) for New England in 2019, and head coach Pete Carroll called him “the fastest player we’ve ever had here.” Dorsett was a first-round pick in 2015 out of Miami by the Indianapolis Colts.

Seattle signed Dorsett as a free agent in March on a one-year deal.

Due to new rules this season, Dorsett won’t have to miss as much time as in previous years by virtue of being placed on injured reserve. He will be eligible to return in three weeks.
