Seahawks’ Bruce Irvin apologizes for April Fool’s joke

Seahawks linebacker Bruce Irvin woke up Wednesday morning and apologized, via Twitter, for a drunk driving incident the night before.
But, of course, it’s April Fool’s Day.
Twitter blew up with criticism:
Irvin responded: “How many of yall thought I was serious ?! Haha April fools!!!”
However, as the Washington Post pointed out, Irvin is no stranger to apologizing via Twitter. “I messed up and feel so bad,” he wrote after a suspension for performance-enhancing drugs in 2013. “I want to apologize to all of the younger kids for my actions last night,” he tweeted after a Super Bowl ejection.
So one might have been confused Wednesday morning.
And rather than just let it pass, Irvin retweeted reaction and responded to his critics. Eventually, Irvin realized a jest in bad taste might just be a mistake.
Luckily, Irvin’s fans realize it’s April 1 and are easy to offer forgiveness.
@masumner23: “12’s got your back. If someone can’t take a joke on April fools then….well you know”
@DJMackLong: “Better make it the rest of the week. People acting like you kidnapped a baby.”
