Griffey Goes Yard!!!

What a game last night! And what an unbelieveable flare for the dramatic!

Ken Griffey Junior showed last night that no matter what side of this debate you fall on, you have to admit he can still come up in a clutch spot and deliver.

I’m sure we’ll discuss on Monday whether this proves that he is back in a groove or if it is evidence that he is best suited for a bench/pinch hitting role. But let that wait until Monday.

For now, I’m content to just relish in the fact that I was at a game that was special.

And not just because Junior went deep to tie it up. The entire energy changed when he pinch hit last night. The stadium went from quiet to electric in an instant. Kudos to the game presentation folks for blasting the old Bulls/Suns warmup music. Even more kudos to the fans for responding with a genuine roar for their hero. And, of course, the most kudos to Griffey for responding to the moment and crushing a first-pitch fastball.

That was the best energy I’ve felt in Safeco this year.

And that is why I love sports.
