If you missed the two-hour winter meetings edition of “The Hot Stove League Show”, which was broadcast from the Mariners Team Store at Bellevue Square Friday night, we have the podcast up on our podcast page.
General manager Jack Zduriencik joined us for three full segments in the first hour, and since we had the time we encouraged him to do a little story telling about the wooing of Robinson Cano and his agents, including Jay Z. He gives a great picture of what goes into that part of deal-making. He then talked about the financial end of the deal and how they assessed the value of Cano and got to the final price tag of $240 million over 10 years. He also answered questions about the newest additions to the Mariners and talked about what he would like to do next.
In the second hour Paul White form USA Today talked about the national view of the Cano deal and this year’s free-agent market in general. We also get to know Corey Hart a little bit and hear a taped interview we got with Cano an hour before he was introduced to the local media.
