There was a little extra K.J. Wright on Seattle Sports this week, with the former Seahawks Pro Bowl linebacker stepping in Friday morning to co-host Brock and Salk with fellow former NFL player Brock Huard.

Seahawks Instant Reaction: Seattle Sports on 21-13 loss to 49ers

With Huard running the show, Wright took his place answering the three football questions during the Blue 88 segment, which airs at 7:45 a.m. every day.

Here’s a look at the questions for Wright and his answers the morning after Seattle lost 21-13 to the 49ers and their dominant defense on Thursday night.

No. 1: What have four losses in five games done to your evaluation of Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith?

Man, I was talking all my stuff: ‘Hey, pay the man, pay the man.’ What’s the number? What did we have, $33 million? It was that midseason, and the evaluation lately – man, it’s quarterback-driven league and the best of the best get their money. And sheesh, I need him to finish. My evaluation is it hasn’t been pretty. (The) run game hasn’t existed and so the ball has been in his hands, and that’s what you want as a quarterback, so it’s been a little shaky. … The rhythm has not been there. The complimentary football hasn’t been there. So it hasn’t looked great at all.

No. 2: How does this 49ers’ defense compare to the Legion of Boom defense Wright was a part of with the Seahawks in 2013?

They look just like us. They’re nasty. They’re aggressive. They’re mean. They’re getting the ball. They quite frankly don’t give a ‘you know what’ when they step on the football field. … I’m gonna be honest, I admire what they what they do on the football field. … And they’re so sound. It’s so sound and it’s so aggressive and it’s so physical – it’s a beautiful thing to watch. … This is hard to score against, and this is the best defense in the NFL.

What’s the biggest need for the Seahawks with two first-round picks in the 2023 NFL Draft?

I need us to find a grown man on defense. I need a grown young man on defense. I need somebody that’s big, I need somebody that’s physical, I need somebody that’s tough, I need somebody that’s intellectually smart when it comes to schemes. And so for that, give me a pass rusher, give me – in this scheme – an outside linebacker, or give me a defensive lineman that is going to cause havoc for opposing quarterbacks and for opposing running backs. They’re out there. This draft is full of them. We got two (picks) in the first round, and don’t be surprised if we go two monsters in the first round defensively to get that done.

You can catch The K.J. Wright Show every Wednesday during the football season from 8-9 a.m. on Seattle Sports 710 AM.  And to hear the full Blue 88 segment from Friday, click play in the podcast below.
