The NFL trade deadline is fast approaching, and business has picked up around the league with Christian McCaffrey landing with the 49ers last week and fellow running back James Robinson going to the Jets on Monday. Could the Seahawks get in on the action before the deadline next Wednesday?

On Thursday’s edition of Bump and Stacy on Seattle Sports, Stacy Rost asked former NFL receiver and current Seahawks Radio Network pregame and postgame show host Michael Bumpus if there are any moves Seattle could make to show the current NFC West leader’s commitment to winning in 2022. Bump had a couple names to point to.
First, he concentrated on defense with Washington Commanders defensive tackle Daron Payne.
“He gets after the quarterback, he hasn’t been great against the run but he’s good against the pass,” Bumpus explained.
Payne, a 25-year-old Alabama product, has 3.5 sacks, 10 QB hits, a safety, three passes defensed and 24 tackles this season, having started all seven of Washington’s games. With his size (6 foot 3, 320 pounds) and ability to sack QBs, he could be a good fit for Seattle in its 3-4 defensive front.

The other name Bumpus brought up was Tampa Bay wide receiver Scotty Miller, who could fill a hole if the patellar tendon injury to DK Metcalf keeps the Seahawks’ most talented receiver out of action for an extended period of time. Bumpus mentioned that Miller was identified by The Athletic as a potential trade target for Seattle following Metcalf’s injury.
“This year he only has 10 catches for 79 yards, but he had a big year a couple years ago β 33 receptions, three touchdowns (in 2020), had a big catch in I believe the conference game against the Green Bay Packers a couple of years ago,” Bumpus said.

Also important: Miller has a base salary of $965,000, which would fit under the salary cap for Seattle.
