For the first time since the 2017 season, Andrew Moore will be on the mound for the Seattle Mariners.

Mariners MLB Draft tracker: Follow every M’s pick

The M’s have recalled their 2015 second-round draft pick from Double-A Arkansas ahead of Tuesday’s game against the Houston Astros, and Moore will get the spot start in the contest.

In a corresponding move, the Mariners placed right-handed reliever Connor Sadzeck on the 10-day IL with right elbow inflammation. Sadzeck’s move to the IL is retroactive to Monday.

While the Mariners selected Moore, an Oregon native, out of Oregon State in 2015 and he made his MLB debut with Seattle in 2017, he was traded last season to Tampa Bay in the deal that brought Alex Colomé and Denard Span to the M’s. He struggled with the Rays and hasn’t appeared in the majors since starting for the Mariners on Sept. 23, 2017 against Cleveland.

Moore, 25, has twice been claimed on waivers this year, first going to San Francisco before the Mariners re-acquired him. He has appeared in eight games between Triple-A and Double-A in 2019 and has a 9.98 ERA combined with three teams. The good news is that he has been solid in two starts since re-joining Seattle’s farm system, allowing four earned runs over 11 2/3 innings (3.09 ERA) with 12 strikeouts and no walks for Arkansas. The no walks is a promising sign as he has dealt with control problems over the last year.

Sadzeck, 27, has been one of the better relievers in a struggling Mariners bullpen since he was acquired from Texas on April 1. He has a 2.66 ERA with one save and an 0-1 record in 20 appearances with Seattle.
