Mariners video: Shannon Drayer and Boy Howdy make sense of Seattle’s big trades, drastic changes

Dec 4, 2018, 11:29 PM | Updated: Dec 5, 2018, 2:27 pm

So, a few things have happened since the last Mariners video podcast with Shannon Drayer and James “Boy Howdy” Osborn.

For starters, the Mariners traded away an All-Star. Along with another All-Star. And then about an hour later, they traded yet another All-Star.

And that was just Monday.

Mariners trades: Canó/Díaz Segura | Colomé | Paxton Zunino

As you might expect, the Mariners’ trades sending Robinson Canó and Edwin Díaz to the Mets and Jean Segura to the Phillies figured big in Drayer and Osborn’s conversation about the current state of the team. That was far from the only topic they discussed, however.

Here’s a few other things covered in the video podcast:

New guys in town

Who the Mariners acquired in the trades, including top prospects Jarred Kelenic and Justin Dunn from the Mets, and promising 23-year-old shortstop J.P. Crawford from the Phillies.

Who’s next?

Which pieces on the Mariners’ current roster could be shipped off next in general manager Jerry Dipoto’s “re-imagining” of the team (including some that were just added).

Suddenly stocked

A close look at the Mariners’ farm system, which has gone from ranked last in some publications to possibly moving into the top-third in baseball (something Shannon also explained to great detail in this story from Tuesday).

That’s just skimming the surface, however, so watch the attached video for the full experience. Or for an audio-only version, click here.
