Denard Span will make his Mariners debut in the team’s 1:10 p.m. Memorial Day meeting with Texas on 710 ESPN Seattle.

With addition of Span, Mariners have options in OF again

The 34-year-old veteran will be in left field and hit second behind leadoff man Jean Segura Guillermo Heredia. Jean Segura, who sat out Sunday due to taking a foot to the head on a slide the night before, was initially in the lineup but scratched prior to the game as he continues to try to get clearance under concussion protocol.

To make room for Span on the active roster, John Andreoli was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma. Andreoli was called up May 23 and made his MLB debut that day, going for 1 for 3 with a walk and making a sliding catch in right field. That to date is his only in-game appearance for Seattle.

Span is hitting .238 with a .364 on-base percentage, four home runs, 28 RBIs, 27 runs scored and six stolen bases in 43 games this year. Monday is his first day with Seattle after being traded from Tampa Bay on Friday along with reliever Alex Colomé for minor league pitchers Andrew Moore and Tommy Romero.

Marco Gonzales (4-3, 4.05 ERA) will be on the mound for the M’s, while Texas will send former Mariner Doug Fister (1-4, 4.22) out to start.

The M’s have won eight of their last nine games and are coming off their first sweep of the year after taking three straight from Minnesota over the weekend.
