Mariners select RHP Erik Goeddel to take Ichiro’s place on active roster

Right-handed pitcher Erik Goeddel has been selected from Triple-A Tacoma to fill the open roster spot created by Ichiro Suzuki’s transition from an on-field role to a front office position with the Mariners.

Goeddel, 29, is 1-0 with four saves in nine appearances out of the bullpen with Triple-A Tacoma in 2018. He has appeared in parts of four seasons with the New York Mets, owning a 3-4 record with a 3.96 ERA, 109 strikeouts and 38 walks in 110 career relief appearances in the majors.
Goeddel will be in uniform (No. 62) for the Mariners’ series finale with the Oakland A’s at 7:10 p.m. Thursday night on 710 ESPN Seattle.
