Dee Gordon’s first at-bat in a Mariners uniform had the kind of result Seattle is hoping to see a lot out of its new leadoff hitter.

Gordon slapped a double into the left-center field gap to start the Mariners’ Cactus League opener Friday, and he crossed the plate before the Padres even recorded an out in the 3-2 Mariners win.
Gordon, 29, was the Mariners’ biggest trade acquisition of the offseason. A two-time All-Star who has won a batting title, led the National League in stolen bases three times and won a Gold Glove at second base, Gordon is Seattle’s new center fielder. He saw his first game action at the position Friday, fielding a ground-ball single by San Diego leadoff man Carlos Asuaje.
