Nice bounce-back win, particularly when so many people were already looking ahead to offseason moves the Seahawks should make before this season even ends. I was guilty of it too, still feeling like this 2017 Seahawks’ team, even if it gets the NFC’s final playoff spot, will be a one-and-done team and fall far short of the Super Bowl. But that doesn’t take away from what happened in this game, featuring a terrific effort by a defense that caused three turnovers, including a pick six, that was the biggest difference. Hard to tell what was going on with the offense, but the Seahawks have now gained less than a combined 280 yards in the last two games. But it sets up an interesting New Year’s Eve with the Seahawks needing a win over the Cardinals and a loss by the Falcons against the Panthers to make the playoffs. They’ll know where they stand before they kick off at 1 p.m. since the Panthers-Falcons game starts at 10 a.m. PST in Atlanta.

I’m sure plenty of folks will see the 136 total yards on offense and 11 penalties for 142 more yards and call this one ugly. Not me. This looked like old school Seahawks football, and I was more encouraged by it than I probably should be. It wasn’t perfect nor was it even a perfect throwback. The offensive line still doesn’t open holes for running backs and the Seahawks aren’t as physical as they once were. But they won three huge categories: both red zones and turnovers. Yards are cool and all, but their mantra is “all about the ball.” And that means taking it away and owning the end zones. The games might not break their way next week, and there may very well still be major changes to come during the offseason. But this group has worn it’s collective heart on its sleeve for nearly a decade, and it was nice to see their pride on display after the embarrassment of last week.
