The Mariners will have their new big trade acquisition in uniform for Tuesday night’s opener in Oakland, but they’re taking a hit in the bullpen at the same time.

Right-handed reliever David Phelps has been placed on the 10-day disabled list with an elbow impingement, while first baseman Yonder Alonso has been added to the active roster.

Phelps, 30, is expected to miss two to three weeks, the Mariners announced in a medical update after he was examined by team medical director Dr. E. Edward Khalfayan. Phelps came out of the first game of Sunday’s doubleheader in Kansas City after facing one batter due to discomfort in his elbow. He came to Seattle on July  20 in a trade from Miami, and has been an important member of the bullpen since. He has registered three holds in seven appearances, allowing two runs, striking out 11 and walking just one over seven innings of work.

Alonso, a first-time All-Star in 2017, was picked up by Seattle for outfielder Boog Powell on Sunday from the A’s after the Mariners made a waiver claim on the first baseman.

Alonso is expected to make his Mariners debut against his old team in Oakland in Tuesday’s 7:07 game on 710 ESPN Seattle.

The Mariners also provided an update on Felix Hernandez, who was placed on the DL on Saturday. He has been diagnosed with bursitis in his right shoulder and expected to be out three to four weeks.
