The Mariners will have one of their more reliable relief pitchers back in the bullpen for their three-game weekend series with the Texas Rangers, as they have activated Tony Zych from the 10-day disabled list ahead of Friday’s 7:10 game on 710 ESPN Seattle.
To make room for Zych on the active roster, Seattle optioned left-handed pitcher Dillon Overton to Triple-A Tacoma.

The 26-year-old Zych is returning from right shoulder biceps tendon transfer surgery he underwent late last season, which was an injury-plagued year for the hard-throwing right-hander. He appeared in 10 games in the first month of 2016, but landed on the DL with shoulder tendinitis. He returned in August but made just two appearances before experiencing the injury that ended his season.
In 25 career games over 2015 and 2016, Zych has a 2.81 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 45 strikeouts over 32 innings for the Mariners. His acquisition from the Chicago Cubs for future considerations during 2015 ended up being quite the steal, as the Mariners eventually had to send just $1 to complete the trade.
Overton, 25, has made two appearances for Seattle this season, giving up three runs on three hits and a walk with three strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings.
