If and when the Seahawks officially announce their reported hiring of Shane Waldron as their new offensive coordinator, they may have another new coach to reveal coming from the same Los Angeles Rams staff as Waldron.

NFL reporter Michael Silver tweeted Thursday night that the Seahawks will make Andy Dickerson their run game coordinator, replacing Brennan Carroll, who was named offensive coordinator for the University of Arizona’s earlier this month. Dickerson has been assistant offensive line coach for the Rams for nine years and is the last remaining coach on head coach Sean McVay’s staff that was a holdover from previous head coach Jeff Fisher.

Before joining the Rams, Dickerson was a coaches assistant with the Jets in 2011. He also served other coaching roles with the Jets and Browns.

Dickerson and Waldron’s history goes much farther back than their time together with the Rams, as they were college teammates at Tufts University.

The Rams have been known for their run game, especially under McVay, and Dickerson has played a part in it going all the way back to 2012. In 2020, the Rams were 10th in the NFL with 2,018 rushing yards.

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll stated that he wanted to see his team play more balanced on offense next season, which means running the ball more as the scales were tipped more to the pass for Seattle in 2020. Shortly after he made those comments, the Seahawks parted ways with Brian Schottenheimer, who had been Seattle’s offensive coordinator since 2018. Waldron, who has been pass game coordinator for the Rams since 2018, was first reported Tuesday night to be the Seahawks’ choice to replace Schottenheimer.

Though the Seahawks won the NFC West in 2020, they lost two of three games to the Rams, including a wild card playoff game that ended their season. Now it appears they’ll have two of Los Angeles’ coaches on their side in 2021.
