Seahawks playing waiting game with Harvin, Browner

RENTON – The Seahawks continue to wait.

That’s as true for receiver Percy Harvin’s return to practice as it is for cornerback Brandon Browner’s status with the league.

“No official word on that,” coach Pete Carroll said of Browner. “And Percy won’t practice today.”

Well, that summarizes about the past month or so as Seattle has waited to see if Harvin can return to the practice field with an eye toward getting back into a game while Browner’s season has hung in a limbo after a report – on the league’s official website, no less – that he was facing a league suspension.

As of Wednesday at 12:45 p.m.? Nothing. Not for Harvin, who won’t be practicing. Not for Browner, whose status is complicated by the fact he’s coming back from a groin injury suffered at Atlanta in early November.

“He’s just about getting ready where he can practice now,” Carroll said of Browner. “He’s getting close. It’s kind of iffy if he could do it or not. If he could practice today, it’s kind of iffy if he could do it in a limited fashion.”

Browner started at right cornerback prior to suffering the injury. Walter Thurmond replaced him in the lineup and started the next game before he was suspended four games under the league’s substance-abuse policy.

Byron Maxwell has started the past three games, intercepting three passes in the last two.

As for Browner, his potential year-long suspension was reported a month ago and yet no formal announcement has come from the league following his appeal.

“It has taken a long time,,” Carroll said, “and [we’ve] been a little disappointed in that. But we’re handling it.”

As for Harvin, any change in his week-to-week status?

“Not at this moment,” Carroll said. “Nothing has changed. We’re just trying to see if we can get back out to work and get him on the field.”
