Golden Tate: Russell Wilson is a “pretty good quarterback, I guess”

LISTEN:

Golden Tate hasn’t been a Seahawk since he signed a contract with Detroit in March, but that doesn’t mean he minds talking about his time in Seattle or the team in general. And that includes quarterback Russell Wilson.

710 ESPN Seattle’s “The Barbershop” caught up with Tate for an interview, and while discussing the possibility of his Lions meeting his former team in the playoffs, he had this curious comment regarding Wilson:

“They have some really good players on offense. Gotta give a shout-out to my boys J-Kearse and Doug Baldwin – they’re doing their best with the situation that they’re in. A run-heavy offense with a … with a pretty good quarterback, I guess.”

It’s hard to tell what, if any, motivations Tate had behind the comment, but the pause before addressing Wilson and the added “I guess” is sure to grab attention.

That’s not all Tate had to say about the Seahawks, though. He also got into the Percy Harvin trade from earlier this season, and how it relates to him.

“There’s a lot of speculation on why I left Seattle, and what had gone down with the whole Percy Harvin situation – them having high expectations and then him leaving his second year,” Tate said. “It’s funny how now that some things have gone down with other people in the organization that I’m actually being appreciated. One thing I wish would have went down differently.

“I felt like I wasn’t appreciated until all that went down. I am happy in Detroit because I have been appreciated from day one and I think I’ve been doing my job exceptionally well.”

His numbers do reflect that. Tate has thrived as Matthew Stafford’s No. 2 receiver behind Calvin Johnson, catching 91 passes for 1,224 yards, both career highs.
