The Seahawks made their second addition of the offseason to a skill position on offense last week, adding Phillip Dorsett to their wide receiver corps.

Moyer: Seahawks have done well addressing depth

The 27-year-old Dorsett is coming off catching a career-high five touchdowns last season for the Patriots, his third in New England, but his numbers for his career don’t quite jump off the page like you might expect for the 2015 first-round draft pick. Even so, he’s coming to Seattle with a strong reputation, as ESPN NFL Nation Patriots reporter Mike Reiss told 710 ESPN Seattle’s John Clayton on Thursday.

“In Phillip Dorsett, (the Seahawks) get a really good locker room guy, first and foremost,” Reiss said. “This is a player who earned the respect of a lot of people in the Patriots’ organization for the way he handled everything over the last three seasons with them.”

Among the things that Reiss said stood out about Dorsett is the example he set for another former Patriots receiver who spent time with the Seahawks last year.

“I know you guys had this experience in the Pacific Northwest with Josh Gordon. He was a great influence to Josh Gordon when he was here, which just reflected the type of guy he is. You want a guy like Phillip Dorsett on your team,” Reiss said.

As for his presence on the field, Dorsett established a reputation as someone who former Patriots quarterback Tom Brady could count on in big moments.

“As a player, you’re getting a fast wide receiver who can make plays down the field,” Reiss said. “… Every time he would make a big play, I’d tweet something out: ‘Phillip Dorsett just always seems to come up with the big play.’ I think if there was one thing for Seahawks fans I’d say to take away, this is a guy who has played in some big games and delivered in the clutch at times.”

Reiss expects Dorsett to get a chance to show a little more within the Seahawks’ offense than he did with New England.

“I felt like he served the Patriots well the last three seasons and we had probably hit a point here in New England where the ceiling had been reached with Phillip in this offense and I know he felt like he wanted to see what it looked like for him in a different type of offense. I really like the fit for both the Seahawks and Phillip Dorsett with this one-year deal.”

Dorsett won’t be the only speedy receiver on Seattle’s roster, and Reiss wonders if the Seahawks may find ways to use his speed other than on offense.

“Phillip Dorsett to me is going to be more straight-line speed. Not as shifty as a (Tyler) Lockett, not as physical as a (DK) Metcalf, but reliable hands, smart, can line up in all the different spots,” Reiss said. “… One thing that I’m going to be interested to see is, he was not a huge factor (with the Patriots) in the return game and I always wondered why. He’s a fast guy and he didn’t do much of that with the Colts either early in his career. I’ll be curious to see if the Seahawks explore that at all with him because I always thought that might be an untapped asset that he might be able to bring a team.”
