After Russell Wilson, which Seahawks players are the most ‘untradeable’?

NFL.com released an ordered list of players that author Adam Rank labeled as the most untradeable players in the league, and Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, unsurprisingly, was on the list, ranking second behind only Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

2020 NFL Draft: Prospects that would be good fits for the Seahawks

Rounding out the top-five on the list were Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey and San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle.

The Seahawks were one of the best teams in the league in 2019 and won a playoff game, but they did have some glaring holes in their roster, especially on defense. After Wilson, who has been one of the best players in the league during his career, are there any other players on the roster that would be deemed untradeable?

710 ESPN Seattle’s Bob, Dave and Moore each had a different view on the question.

“My thoughts instantly went to Tyler Lockett,” Dave Wyman said. “I went Tyler Lockett and Duane Brown.”

Lockett, 27, has been Wilson’s No. 1 receiver for the last two seasons and over that span, he has over 2,000 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns, developing chemistry with Wilson that’s among the best in the league for any quarterback-receiver tandem.

“I feel like he has a better connection with Tyler Lockett than he did with Doug Baldwin,” he said.

Brown, meanwhile, has protected Wilson’s blindside at left tackle since he was traded to Seattle in 2017 and has been one of the better linemen in the league during his 12-year career.

Jim Moore also went with a wide receiver, but not Lockett.

“Yeah, DK Metcalf for me and that’s the only player on the team right now that I wouldn’t trade,” Moore said.

Metcalf, 22, was a star at the 2019 NFL Scouting Combine due to his blend of size, speed, strength and explosiveness. Injury concerns as well as questions about his route running led him to fall in the draft and the Seahawks happily scooped him up with the final pick of the second round (64th overall).

Those concerns were quickly brushed aside as Metcalf established himself as Seattle’s No. 2 receiver and as one of the better rookie receivers in 2019. He finished the year with 900 yards and seven touchdowns in the regular season and in his first playoff game, set an NFL rookie playoff record with 160 yards against the Philadelphia Eagles.

“I guess with Metcalf, I’m just looking at him going we know what Tyler Lockett’s ceiling is … with Metcalf, I’m thinking boy, sky’s the limit kind of thing,” Moore said. “That’s the only reason why … I wouldn’t want to part with DK Metcalf at this point.”

Bob Stelton said that there’s no one on the roster aside from Wilson that deserves that sort of status.

“There are players I love on this team, but I don’t look at any player outside of Wilson and go, ‘well what would they be without this guy? You cannot miss this guy,'” Stelton said. “I mean, they’ve played games without Tyler, they need Tyler because they’re very thin, but is he absolutely untradeable, you couldn’t possibly part with him?”

During the segment, many listeners texted that their choice would be All-Pro linebacker Bobby Wagner. Wagner, 29, is a five-time First Team All-Pro and has the most tackles in franchise history with more than 1,000 to his credit. He also led the league in tackles for the second time in his career in 2019.

“I think Bobby piled up a lot of tackles,” Stelton said. “I don’t think he had the best year of his career by any stretch, (but) he’d probably be the most popular answer outside of Russell.”

Stelton liked Wyman’s answer of Brown, but due to his age he thinks he would be expendable because he may only play for one or two more years before retiring. WYman said his on-field performances are only part of the reason he’s so important.

“I’m always going to side on the part of what makes up a good locker room and what do you give to Russell, who is the one untradeable guy, and having a left tackle that you know is is probably one of the top-tier tackles right now, and the way Duane Brown takes care of himself (is important),” Wyman said.
