After taking practice reps against arguably the best defense in the NFL all season, and All-Big 12 honors while starting for West Virginia University, Mark Glowinski thought he was ready for his first start. It’s always different once you actually step on the field for the first time, though.

“I played in a fast conference, but everything is a lot faster,” the fourth-round pick said Sunday on the postgame show following the Seahawks’ win over Arizona. “You’re in the meeting rooms all day just expecting, you can go as fast as possible if you know what you’re doing.”

Glowinski, one of Seattle’s two fourth-round picks in 2015, started for injured guard J.R. Sweezy in the 36-6 victory Sunday. The offensive line rebounded from a rough showing against St. Louis the week before, allowing just one sack and leading the way to 145 rushing yards.

Glowinski said he got his jitters out during the preseason.

“When I got in there I was just waiting to see what happens,” he said.

Center Patrick Lewis said he was impressed with Glowinksi’s play.

“He played his butt off; hats off to him,” Lewis said. “He hadn’t had much experience playing in a real NFL game up to this point. He got in and he did his job, and that’s all we asked for him to do. Of course he’s gonna continue to get better.”

Beyond his intense preparation for the game itself, Glowinski said there was also a lot of buildup all week off of the field.

“I did not check (my phone) yet but I need to check right now,” he said. “There’s probably a lot (of messages). Just a whole week of Pete (Carroll) saying I might play, I had so many guys, even from junior college and the guys where I originally started from, (who) were really proud of me and were hitting me up all week.”
