A few Seahawks who were sidelined in Seattle’s preseason opener against Denver last week – including middle linebacker Bobby Wagner – remained out of action in Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings. But there was one new name added to the week’s list of injured players: second-round pick DK Metcalf.

Seahawks fail to find end zone on offense in 25-19 loss to Vikings

General manager John Schneider confirmed Metcalf would not be playing during the Seahawks pregame show on 710 ESPN Seattle, citing a recent leg injury.

“He’s got a sore leg,” Schneider said. “We’re going to check that out and be cautious with him, and play it day by day and see how it goes.”

After the game, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said Metcalf is set for knee surgery, but said it was minor and that the rookie wouldn’t be out long.

The 6-foot-3, 229-pound Metcalf has been one of the most highly-anticipated players in this year’s preseason. While Metcalf faced some injury concerns coming out of the University of Mississippi, he has remained relatively healthy through Seattle’s offseason training programs. He sat out the team’s mock game with an oblique injury but returned to practice the following week and played in last week’s exhibition game against the Broncos.

Without Metcalf, Seattle had a chance to get a better look at other young receivers, including fellow 2019 draft picks Gary Jennings and John Ursua, undrafted rookies Jazz Ferguson and Terry Wright, and younger veterans like David Moore and Keenan Reynolds.

“It’s going to be an interesting group now the way they rotate through here this evening and hopefully they all get a fair amount of targets,” Schneider said. “There’s a uniqueness to all of them, so it’s been an interesting group to watch all throughout the preseason.”
